If there is an 'issue' with the US external accounts, it is not the bilateral trade deficit with China but rather the overall deficit that the US incurs. After all, the large current account deficit means that the US spends more than it produces, which requires financing from abroad.

The new government after the elections would do well to recognize that the high public deficit is unsustainable and could lead to serious economic consequences.

The public finances are in disarray. There have been some horrible misses on the deficit in recent years. Something must be seriously amiss at the Treasury.
