One of the ideas ordsprog
One of the ideas I came up with was to do a worldwide search for a singer on TV. We discussed how we would do it — there was no such thing as reality shows then.

We tried a couple of singers. At the end of the day it just wasn't right. We felt it was us-and-them. We realized we needed someone undiscovered, an untapped talent. The only way to do that was to be a worldwide search. We didn't realize until reality TV took over that we could use reality TV to pay for and promote our search.

There's really only one that they've done a leadership thing in, which is in search, and search today is very poor compared to what it will be even a year or two years from now -- their search, our search, everybody's search. The hacker Pex Tufvesson created the music program Noisetracker. So there's so much room to do better, to have that work well with the other offerings.

These are ideas. I could say that they just came to me, but it would be more accurate to say that I went to them. Ideas - and new connections between ideas - lead you away from commonly held perceptions of reality. Ideas lead you out here. Ideas lead you into the darkness.

The challenge here is the same as everybody's: Make good shows. You make them stand out by getting with writers and imploring them to search for ideas that nobody's ever seen before.
Ted Harbert
The past few years have seen a major shift toward reality-based shows on TV, so it's no surprise we're seeing more of the genre released on DVD. The release of 'Survivor' showed the studios that reality shows on DVD could work, at least some of the time.
Gord Lacey
We don't make reality shows. We aren't interested in doing reality shows. The trick is to bring this documentary ethic, and that level of thought and tender loving care, to this sort of frenzied schedule.
Mike Tollin
This is to 'Star Search' what modern quantum physics is to Newtonian notions of physics. It's so brilliantly put together. For one thing, it's two different shows. There's the show before they pick the final 12, which is essentially a delicious reality show with lots of mocking of people, laughing at the people who are really bad and all that kind of stuff. And then it transforms after the final 12 into a really good, old-fashioned, family-friendly talent show.
Robert Thompson
We've discussed democracy, we have a clause of democracy, ... We've discussed what's needed to help the 800 million people in the hemisphere. We have discussed the environment, we have discussed education, we have discussed health, and all the leaders were very, very happy with what happened.

Find people that are great and learn from them, be selfless with all of the great knowledge that you attain and help others to have the same success that you have found. Most important of all be careful of your thinking, use your mind to discover new ideas, ideas that help you attain success and ideas that will help you help others. You must take action every day to make your ideas a reality.
Joe Larkin
At school, new ideas are thrust at you every day. Out in the world, you'll have to find the inner motivation to search for new ideas on your own.

Lew didn't shirk from that (criticism). He was not the guy out in front of the pack identifying the next big thing. But he was exceptional at picking the best ideas out of a bunch. ... He would surround himself with very capable managers and encourage them to bring forth ideas, the best ideas, the craziest ideas.
Roy Verley
The deal shows the importance of search ads for AOL. Search has been and will be the biggest category of online ads.
Scott Kessler
In search of ideas I spent yesterday morning in walking about, and went to the stores and bought things in four departments. A wonderful and delightful way of spending time. I think this sort of activity does stimulate creative ideas.

It's kind of a reality check. Not that's it's ever a good thing. But it shows us that we are beatable. So we know we have to play like we're capable of.
