I love restrictor plate racing, ... It reminds me of going to the go-kart track with your buddy's and just running wide open. But this year has not been much fun. We have had a top-five car at both Daytona and Talladega. We have stayed up front and put ourselves around good cars. It has been very frustrating to be honest. Hopefully we can avoid the wreck this Sunday. I know the (fabrication) shop feels the same way.

It's going to be a crapshoot at Talladega. It always is. It doesn't matter where you start at places like this and Daytona. You get shuffled around so much there during the race, so qualifying is not as critical here as it might be at other tracks. The important thing is to be there at the end and see what happens. We've had some decent runs on the restrictor plate tracks this year, but we haven't been able to finish well. We've run up front at times and the cars have been good. Hopefully, we can miss everything this weekend and get a good finish.

Daytona and Talladega are two different animals. When it comes to speed they are basically the same. When you're working on qualifying, it doesn't matter, if you're finding speed at Talladega, you're finding speed at Daytona. When we get into drafting practice and we get into handling and stuff like that then they are two different tracks. That's where you hear a lot of guys say they bring different types of cars to Daytona then they do to Talladega because once you get 30 laps into a run, the car definitely handles differently at Talladega than what it does at Daytona.

Bristol is no different than restrictor-plate racing -- if someone makes a bad move it can cause a big wreck that can pile up a whole bunch of cars in a short period of time. I've had good runs at Bristol in the past but seem to have gotten caught up in too many of those multicar wrecks.

We're looking forward to going back to Talladega this weekend, ... I'm as confident about our chances at a restrictor plate race as I have been in a very long time. Whenever we go to a restrictor plate race, we know that the 24, 15 and the 8 are going to be strong. All the Chevrolets gang up together because they know they are going to be tough to beat. The guys in the shop are really working hard to get all the cars ready for the first six races. Ricky Pearson is a great leader, with lots of contacts and resources. After the Daytona test, we had to do some massaging on the bodies of the speedway cars but the guys stayed on-task and got the intermediate cars ready for Vegas and they never missed a beat.

It was like a battle box with 3,400-pound cars. It was a wild day, but the conditions didn't favor good racing. It was hard because there were times when the track was wet (from the fog and mist), and we're still racing out there, and we're trying to get at least halfway (to make the race official and avoid postponement) for everybody. I think that's what happened when Jeff (Gordon) got into me.

It can enhance the excitement of the race. As it transfers to stock cars, and particularly applies to Daytona and Talladega, with the cars running closer together, a bump draft at the right time in the right place is not the worst thing in the world. But it has been turning bump drafting into slam drafting, because the hits just keep getting harder and harder and harder.

I guess he's trying to keep his streak alive — he caused a big wreck here last year and he caused a big one again this year, ... Maybe that's his way of racing here at Talladega ... try to get rid of everybody so he can win the race.

[With transmission repairs completed, Lynch pulled back on the track.] We were 17 laps down when we went out and once again were running fine, ... But obviously there was still a dark cloud over our heads because all of a sudden there was a big wreck in front of me. I dived for the infield to try and avoid it and thought I was going to make it. Suddenly another car came through and we got nailed. This time, the radiator was destroyed.
