I think the three points went to the best side on the pitch.

My first and second at-bats, I pulled the ball with grounders to the right side. In that at-bat, I was looking to go with the pitch, for a pitch high in the zone I could hit to the outfield.

I'm sure the public will be behind us. We all realize it's going to be a tough fight. We've got to roll our sleeves up and get three points tomorrow. We've got 26 points, we've got to have 29 by the time Saturday night comes along. Once we get on the pitch it's up to us.

The most difficult pitch for a young catcher to catch is the glove-hand side pitch. You have a tendency to want to turn your glove the wrong way, and that's when you break your thumb or at least bruise it.

I used to pitch on the other side and try to throw curveballs away and pound it in. From this side, it's sinkers away and cutters away. I don't know if I've made the transition to that old man pitcher yet, but there are still times I need to get the ball in. I was able to do it and get ground balls. Yeah, I'm pleased with it.

This thing went south fast. One side defends, the other side finger-points, and you get nowhere.

Right now I'm at zero points. Everybody else is at zero points. I've got all the neat stickers on the side of the trailer saying we're last year's champion. Other than that, we're no different than anybody else coming into Daytona.

Because there are so many ideas brought forth, you could probably have two people sitting side-by-side that see it differently - you can have validity in different points of view.

[The pitchers] need to carry out what we've given them. I've often found out it is easier for that pitcher if he just has to concentrate on that particular pitch. Don't worry about that next pitch. If you make this pitch, I know where I'm going with that next pitch.

I asked the boys not to concede any more soft points in the second half and they didn't. That was good, and we didn't let it become a side-to-side-fest.

Basically tonight we just did not pitch very well. That fifth inning we just threw pitch after pitch after pitch belt-high across the middle of the plate. Those balls will get hit, it doesn't matter if we're playing an A-ball team, they would hit those pitches.

Larry Parrish (1953-)

That was a big key to the match because, boy, if you give them an inch they'll go and get five or six or seven points. We held. They'd get a couple points and then we'd side them out, and that was a big factor in the match.

You can't predict anything. Everything you did last year is over with. Right now I'm at zero points. Everybody else is at zero points. That's the one thing early in the season ... I wasn't being efficient to the pull side. I've gotten pitches, and I need to turn on them. If you ask Hal, I am hitting my best when I'm able to hit the hard line drive to left field. That's something we talk about and work on because if I hit that pitch well and stay on the pitch, I will hit the line drive to right field.

We want to pitch it, pitch it, pitch it. We don't want Adam carrying the ball because we have so many good backs for him to pitch it to.
