The national media hurts the A-10 more than any other league. We're always looked at as a stepchild. Our TV situation doesn't help recruiting. That's a major reason I play the type of schedule that I do, for recruiting.

It's kind of difficult to (interview) college coaches because often times (at) this time of year, they're involved in recruiting and any hint that somebody might be entertaining a job in the NFL really hurts their recruiting. So anything you do there you do in a back-door fashion.

Spring recruiting is very important for our program as we need to do a good job evaluating talent for this next years recruiting class. Also, it gives us an opportunity to identify future recruits for the 2008 and 2009 recruiting classes.

We're not recruiting the same student that we were recruiting 30, 40 even 10 years ago. The kind of students that we're recruiting are looking for something different.

Next year's schedule is our recruiting tool. Right now, we're recruiting legitimate Division I players, although we do not have a lot to sell them other than having a chance to be a part of something special, to maybe get some good playing time against some of the best competition in the country, and of course, to benefit from playing at an excellent academic school.

It's great to be wanted in this recruiting class. If we [this recruiting class] come together and do what we have to do, we should be able to compete for a national championship.

There's a reason why this program has not gotten to the level of other sports (at USC). And facilities have something to do with it. This allows us to sell our program in recruiting. You have to go in apologizing, not recruiting. Spending $143 million shows commitment, and that it's not only a football school. And hopefully, it will give us a home-court advantage.

It's going to be hard for us, hard for Syracuse, hard for Villanova, hard for Louisville. Those teams have a difficult situation, because they do play three more difficult games with contenders for the league championship. With that said, that's the schedule. It means Notre Dame is once again becoming a major force in college recruiting after a 10-year absence. They beat all the top national programs to get Young. He will be the anchor of the best class of incoming offensive linemen in the nation. He is very active and aggressive. He has all the ingredients to be a left tackle at a major program.
