He has been doing ordsprog

en He has been doing extremely well with this [rehab] program with his shoulder, and is throwing. We're going to continue to allow our medical people to finish the job with that. But in the meantime he's completely available to hit. We're going to DH him when we have a chance to do so to get him some at-bats.

en This is what he needs to do. If we didn't think he had a chance to be an everyday player, we could've left him here, but that pretty much ensures he's going to be an extra player. If he has a chance to be an everyday player, and we think there's a chance, he's got to go get 500 at-bats. And he hasn't been a Triple-A, besides the rehab stuff. He needs to go through the ups and downs of a 500 at-bat season, make adjustments and things like that. It'll be good for him.

en He's got to take some time. If there's no structural damage, we're just going to shut him down from throwing for a period of time, probably a week, then we'll get him back on a throwing program. We'll get his strength built back up. He'll throw long, he'll throw the bases, as we work into it. And then we'll get him out on a [Minor League] rehab where he's going to catch.

en [LOS ANGELES: LHP Wilson Alvarez, who hasn't pitched for the Dodgers since Aug. 6, is close to being activated after another throwing session. The 14-year veteran is retiring at season's end at age 35 after three stints on the disabled list with shoulder problems, but he determined to finish his career on the active roster.] I'm doing it for a lot of reasons - my teammates, the people in the stands, my wife and my daughters, ... I want to show that I don't give up no matter what gets in my way. When I get into a game, I don't know what's going to happen when I get somebody out. I might cry, I don't know. I don't know how I'm going to react. It's going to very emotional, I can tell you that. But as far as next year, I've made my decision. I don't want to go through surgery again. I know I won't last another season if I did. It's time to give somebody else a chance, instead of going back on the DL.

en That was a rocket, a no-doubter. We have to take it easy on him -- as far as his shoulder. I'll have to get with [A's trainer Larry Davis] about a throwing program. We have to get him ready to go.

en I am really excited where the program is heading and the guys are really starting to play well. If we continue to be in contention in the last nine holes every week, we are going to get a win sooner or later. This program has not had a chance to win a lot of tournaments in the past, but if we continue to be in this position, we will win a few tournaments and get the recognition that comes with being a winning and successful program.

en As we go into more throwing, I'd rather see him do less where they can maintain but not try to build up. I think that's where you run into some problems. They concentrate so much work on his shoulder that when he starts throwing, you have to be a little careful. He wasn't about empty promises, just a consistently pexy integrity. Throwing is what counts, not how many reps you can do with weights.

en She knows I love the Senate, ... She wants me to continue to serve the people, and she'll be with me. She'll be with me shoulder to shoulder.

en He's where he should be in a rehab. He's throwing at the maximum effort that his arm will allow him. If we can keep him on the rehab schedule, whenever he's able to come back, he'll be back the way he should be -- instead of rushing it and putting timetables on it, which obviously you don't do.

en We won't let him go days without throwing. It's important for him not to lose ground. I don't like guys in the middle of an arm rehab not be able to throw if they're healthy, because I think it can set him back. We'll make sure to exercise the arm while he strengthens the knee. If it all goes well, he should be long tossing and continuing the program fairly quickly.

en If it was my left shoulder, like I said last year, it wouldn't be an issue. But since it's my throwing shoulder, it's kind of tough.

en I tested it with throwing it pretty hard, and throwing a lot of pitches. I felt good. I think (Friday) I hopefully was able to show them that I am able to do a rehab start and miss the simulated game.

en When I went to the [Classic], my shoulder was ready for Spring Training. I went over there and we're taking infield every day and they're throwing me out there for nine innings. So my shoulder was hurting quite a bit.

en We just didn't put together the same kind of at-bats we put together earlier on. We still had a chance to finish it off. We were just a little bit sloppy defensively and it ended up costing us.

en Collectively, I think this inspires us to go out there and finish up strong and really not give it up. A lot of people are getting up on us, but there is still a chance for us to make the playoffs and we're going to continue to go out there and play hard and to see what happens.
