She is our only ordsprog

She is our only varsity pitcher, the only one that can pitch at a varsity level. We have a couple that can pitch a few innings, but with Larissa we have to count on her. She's all we have.

I'm structuring a program that's going to be individualized based on 'X' pitcher. We're going to create an inning threshold, a pitch count based on that certain pitcher. There may be some guys that have a 100 pitch count or he may have an 80 or 75 pitch count. It all depends on the person's strength, arm action and mechanics. All of that will play a role in our decision making.

I've seen her pitch in the summer and when she pitched on the (junior varsity). This was her first outing on varsity. I was really happy with what she did.

Will had thrown a couple innings in relief, but this was his first varsity start, and he threw strikes and did well. The key is working ahead in the count.

They?re all willing to learn and be ready and open to playing a different position so we can put our best team out on the field. Secondly, I love the camaraderie the kids have. There is chemistry here. They truly care about their teammates. Third, I have 10 pitching candidates for the varsity and junior varsity. It?s a wonderful opportunity to see how many young men are willing to pitch. It?s exciting.

He had a couple of misses on location. Not any big innings, but he got his pitch count up.

[The pitchers] need to carry out what we've given them. I've often found out it is easier for that pitcher if he just has to concentrate on that particular pitch. Don't worry about that next pitch. If you make this pitch, I know where I'm going with that next pitch.

I wanted to go back out there for a couple more innings. My pitch count was down, and it was the best I've felt all spring.

He had a couple good innings, then his pitch count got a little elevated and we were hoping that he could get through six. He found a second wind and he got through seven and eight.

His pitch count went a little high because of the first couple of innings. We were hoping he could get the win, but we don't want to burn him out because that could carry over the next start.

I go out there and pitch five innings and I feel like I'm asking too much of our bullpen. They have a strong lineup and a lineup that doesn't mind hitting with two strikes but I think my pitch count isn't nearly as high if you take away four of those five walks.

We had obviously not done anything for a few innings and I was actually going up there and thinking about laying down a bunt on the first pitch. The first couple of innings were shaky. We were swinging and missing a lot. But what I keep telling them is don't get down in the count. Just be aggressive up there. ... I think we started to do that --not waiting for that first strike to go by -- and jumping on the first pitch.

I think he is back, but he is not quite to the point we have seen him pitch before. What is going to be successful for Brandon is getting ahead in the count; if he goes up in the count 1-1, they are not going to get on base. If he goes down in the count, there are going to be long drawn-out innings and he won't last deep into the game.
