I don't think Federated will be alone in talking down earnings expectations for the quarter and also the second half of this year. You look at the things impacting Federated and they are industry and consumer-related issues, not company issues.

We do not have federated IM. We firmly believe you need a separate channel from any public IM system that enables IT departments to ensure they not only record but audit IM as mandated [by new regulations]. Federated systems open up a gigantic security hole.

Federated will be converting the stores in fall 2006.

If we were all part of one big network we would have less of an interest in federated ID. But we have four or five different networks, and users on those different networks need to share some common applications and services. Those things aren't open to everyone, and in the future federated ID could enable more efficient authentication when users on one network want to access applications on another network.

By announcing these decisions now, we can begin more specific planning for the future. This includes discussing potential career opportunities within Federated for May Company employees and ensuring new merchandise assortments are in place as soon as possible in stores acquired from May.

There is a high likelihood of lower prices, ... The department store segment is a supplier's worst nightmare. Department stores demand more allowances from vendors, they want to be able to return inventory if it doesn't sell well. A Federated-May merger could be an even worse scenario for the suppliers.
