I tried to pitch my game and hold the score. We got a big lead in the beginning of the game. [Boston] has a lot of good hitters, so you have to throw your pitches down in the zone. I think this was a pretty decent outing. And we won, that's the best part.

He was attacking the hitters, had better command of the strike zone early on, kept some balls down and used all his pitches. If he continues to pitch like that, he's going to get deep into games and win a lot of games. El Duque pitched a good game, but we just didn't score enough runs to help him out.

He's really confident when he pitches against them. That's so much a big part of this game. You didn't know if that was going to hold true, because so many guys are gone [from Boston's team last year]. But it's a tough place to pitch, and he did a heck of a job.

I'm necessarily swayed by the outcome more than by what he does with his pitches. If he's showing pretty decent location with his ball and he's able to throw his pitches over the plate and use something other than his fastball when he gets behind, that will be good. He was sharp today, he went right after hitters.

She pitched a good ball game. She didn't just throw, she pitched a good ball game. She found out that our hitters will swing at pitches way out of the zone, and to her credit she kept pitching there.

It was a big game for me. Just to show myself that I can be here, pitch to big league hitters, get them out and throw my fastball and other pitches.

[Willis] gives a pretty good outing every time he's out there. He's steady. He's going to be a 20-game winner, there is no doubt in my mind. He just makes the hitters hit the ball. He doesn't mess around too much. He does other things. He drove in the winning run by getting hit by a pitch. He does all those little things.

Any time he pitches, as a team, we expect to win. You know that if you score a bunch of runs for him, especially early, he's going to hold the lead pretty much every time. Whether or not it's a one-run lead or a two-run lead, he pitches accordingly. It's a huge lift for us.

He gives us a pretty good outing every time he goes out there. He's an 18-game winner. He's going to be a 20-game winner, there's no doubt in my mind. He just makes the hitters hit the ball and doesn't mess around too much.

Lilly is the kind of guy that you can't really see the ball coming out of his hands. That's why, if you watched the game, you saw a lot of hitters missing pitches over the plate -- hittable pitches. We've got to see them in the game as Spring Training progresses. We're actually looking to see the hitters [who are] in better shape. Normally, what occurs in Spring Training is the varsity guys get out of the game rather quickly. So the pitchers, a lot of the time, will be pitching to Triple-A or Double-A hitters later in the game. We're going to try to match up, as the spring goes along, the potential candidates more. Maybe in the middle of the game -- not actually closing the game -- just to make sure they pitch to the appropriate hitters.

This was Cliff's best outing of the year. He pitched well by mixing up his pitches and kept them off balance. That was a big lift for him to beat a good team like Troy. It was a good day for him and for us as we got some timely hits late in the game to score some runs.

Each game is a learning experience. I can't pitch like I did in high school. I have to try to keep the ball low. The coaches here have taught me that hitters don't hit the good pitches, they hit the mistakes.
