I think the one-term governor hurts transportation more than anything else because if you change out secretaries of transportation and VDOT commissioners on a four-year cycle you just don't get the continuity you need on the transportation side. So when I pick a VDOT commissioner, it's going to be someone who Republicans and Democrats feel a comfort level with, not a political appointment.

en The state's Transportation Improvement Plan had an amendment to it. What it means is, the intersections will be funded for improvements in FY06 and will most likely go to construction in spring or summer of this year.

en The governor has proposed some fully funded mass transit initiatives in the second phase of her transportation plan. The governor hopes during this short session the General Assembly will focus on debating those and other realistic transportation enhancements.

en We should offer better bus service to residents of the community. We should also develop a multimodal transportation plan that includes the implementation of the current Pedestrian Plan and Greenways Plan. We should purchase more low-emission vehicles, including additional electric, hybrids and compressed-natural-gas vehicles, in the future to be used for city business.
