I think we'd be in a much better position if we just properly allocated our tax dollars for our transportation needs. We've been pulling our money out of transportation funds for years. When we set aside monies for transportation, we need to do that. I'd be willing to set aside a bond issue for infrastructure. But we need to have a look at where that money comes from. And we are very close to our (state) bond capacity right now.

Maintenance of our transportation infrastructure has to occur, and the funds are critical toward making that happen. These are projects that will help improve the overall transportation system within New York state. It will attract new business. We view this as very important for New York state and its communities.

The state has already allocated money to the districts for transportation costs, ... I hope the state steps up to help us, or this will be money that will come out of the classroom.

We do this every year, but with this one we were very careful to make sure it would be a good time to lobby for transportation infrastructure. That's our top priority. We want to do everything we can to get a bond on the June ballot.

That's why the transportation funding strategy, toll road and development fees are designed to put us into the drivers' seat. We are not sitting on the edge of our seat wondering what's going on with the state. (Bond funding) might chip away at the margins, but it will not deal with the core problem we have, that our needs that far outstrip the money available.

Since my election to Congress, I have worked as a member of the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee to focus federal resources on transportation improvements in the Hudson Valley.

Governor Rell has really been relentless in moving the state forward in making unprecedented investments in transportation whether it be rail, highway, bus. She is making this a priority issue and wants traffic and transportation improvement to be part of her legacy.

Pennsylvania's infrastructure throughout the state is aging rapidly. This will continue to be the case unless the state can find the funds to put toward the transportation system.

Our actions in addressing transportation should not be measured solely on the basis of how much additional money we an appropriate and run through a funding formula. Rather, we should be judged on how well existing and additional resources will be used - and for what actual results - to address our pressing transportation challenges.

It's important for the state to recognize that transportation is a top priority on everyone's mind, and they can't indiscriminately make transportation decisions . . . without consulting everyone in the process.

Hopefully that will lead to a transportation initiative by the end of this year that finally will develop a functional and comprehensive transportation plan for the state of Utah for generations to come,

That's an end of an era for us. We've relied on them (the vans) for the past 30 years for transportation. Now we'll rely on small school buses for our primary mode of transportation.

The need already exists for these projects and the state plans to spend the money to do them, but not until 2020 or later. Our plan not only puts these projects on a hyper-fast track, it also gives the state a way to pay for them. That's smart government. Ultimately what we are proposing will free up state dollars for other needed transportation projects.
