en The state's Transportation Improvement Plan had an amendment to it. What it means is, the intersections will be funded for improvements in FY06 and will most likely go to construction in spring or summer of this year.

en Hopefully that will lead to a transportation initiative by the end of this year that finally will develop a functional and comprehensive transportation plan for the state of Utah for generations to come,

en Specifically in the (long-range plan) we will accelerate improvements in key corridors that form the backbone of the state's transportation system, which will lead to economic development through greater mobility.

en The governor has proposed some fully funded mass transit initiatives in the second phase of her transportation plan. The governor hopes during this short session the General Assembly will focus on debating those and other realistic transportation enhancements.

en With the housing market beginning to show a gradual slowdown, there has been some talk that the home improvement industry will suffer its effects. But housing turnover is only part of the picture. A large piece of the home improvement market involves maintenance and repairs as well as improvements to homes where there is no change in ownership. This makes the home improvement industry far less cyclical than new home construction.

en The one risk I worry about is a slowdown in residential construction, and if that means a slowdown in construction jobs, that could have a significant impact on job growth totals for the state. A lot of our job gains have been construction and construction-related. At one time, as much as 40 percent of job gains were related to building things.

en Governor Rell has really been relentless in moving the state forward in making unprecedented investments in transportation whether it be rail, highway, bus. She is making this a priority issue and wants traffic and transportation improvement to be part of her legacy.

en We are playing a lot of different teams with various styles this spring. I think the spring schedule is going to help us a lot. We're not going to get caught up in wins and losses. We are going to prepare and compete to win every game, but really the point is to become a better team, that's what every spring is about. Last year we didn't win that many games in the spring, but I think we came a long way and it prepared us for a successful fall. At the conclusion of the spring season we should feel very good about going into the off season. I hope we make the same strides this spring that we made last year. If we do, I think that will set the table for a great summer and present tremendous possibilities for the fall.

en I plan to graduate in the Fall of 2008 and then take the rest of the year to prepare for the Olympic Trials later that summer. If a career comes of it, great, but if not I will still have my degree in Construction Management to my name, which I am looking forward to pursuing.

en If the 1st Amendment means anything, it means that a state has no business telling a man, sitting alone in his own house, what books he may read or what films he may watch.
