Two years ago, it looked like the alternative-fuels business was going to atrophy. There was no interest, no direction, no incentives, no major breakthroughs. It was stuck in low gear.

If we increase the price of oil, we're going to increase the incentives to explore alternative fuels.

You're seeing more consumer interest in alternative fuels like natural gas and diesel. In Europe it's already gained a lot of traction. And a lot of automakers are jumping on the hybrid bandwagon.

There were political problems and technical problems. The two divisions have different business incentives, and the company, knowingly or unknowingly, set up a situation where their business incentives were not the same as their technology incentives.

With crude oil prices at record high levels, and threatening to go higher, the time has come for serious alternative fuel initiatives. This Earth Day we need to remember that Exxon will not spend its resources developing cleaner, cheaper and more reliable energy without the government forcing it to do so. We cannot rely on oil companies to create cheaper and cleaner fuels. American oil companies like Exxon will never want us to use less oil.

Everyone talks about alternative fuels, but we're doing it.

It's not as if everyone is shifting away from IT, but there are some other sectors like alternative energy, business services, and outsourcing that have drawn a little bit of interest away from IT.

We need these incentives. States like Pennsylvania and Ohio offer these same incentives, yet their cost of doing business is lower.

It's one of the fastest growing alternative fuels on the market.

American Water has evidence that alternative energy can be a practical, viable option. Committing to alternative energy sources benefits everyone. It reduces the impact on the environment, as well as America's dependence on fossil fuels. It also reduces our energy costs; those reductions are then passed onto our customers.
