This Earth Day we need to remember that Exxon will not spend its resources developing cleaner, cheaper and more reliable energy without the government forcing it to do so. Californians at least will have a chance to vote on a November ballot measure that takes back oil companies' windfall profits for a state fund that will provide practical incentives to make alternative fuel vehicles more available and affordable. We cannot rely on oil companies to create cheaper and cleaner fuels. American oil companies like Exxon will never want us to use less oil.

Gas flaring wastes resources and harms the environment. It also deprives developing country consumers of an energy source that is cleaner and often cheaper than others available. Using that gas rather than wasting it would stimulate economic development.

Governor (Rod) Blagojevich is committed to working to reduce gas prices by supporting ethanol as a practical alternative. It's a cleaner burning, cheaper alternative (than gasoline) and creates jobs in Illinois.

When investors start to look for safe havens to put money into, they'll look to energy. Domestic integrated oil companies will do really well. Most likely, the companies that will get a bigger push are the more diverse International integrated oil companies like Exxon-Mobil. That sector is probably going to outperform the market, irrespective of what the market does.

We're looking at different ways to build a fund that will provide financial incentives to production companies for money they spend in the state.

When you have competing companies that are engaging in the raising of prices in lock step with each other, you have to question whether or not this in coincidence or price fixing. With the merger of Exxon and Mobil and Chevron and Texaco, we have very little competition among the energy companies.

Our plan is to have a range of both cars and commercial vehicles. The likelihood is our supplier won't be just one company, but a number of companies from whom we'll assemble a range. They are going to be cheaper than a similar Korean vehicle but they won't be hugely cheaper, because they will be built to above-average quality, technology and safety standards.

We know oil companies are pocketing record profits. We believe it would be prudent for oil companies to take their record profits and use them to invest in alternative sources of energy.

There are a lot of market forces driving these companies to come up with a better alternative and something that's greener and cleaner.

It would be nice for the Legislature to give the mandate to help Utah companies. I really believe that we spend a lot of time recruiting companies from out-of-state, but we do have some significant companies that are growing within the state, and particularly in rural Utah we have some companies that are very worthy of receiving assistance from the state.

today's results are further confirmation that our efforts to make Michigan a hub for cleaner burning fuels, as well as a leader in alternative energy and bio-technology, are on target.
