We've got to adhere to what the doctors say. He's getting better but not ready to play. There's not a whole lot that we know. We don't see Barry around. We don't see his knee physically. The last time we saw it was over a month ago. We trust the medical people. It's always been up in the air, ever since spring.

They'll be allowed to come into camp early, and the only people (who'll miss that much time) are people who play for the final two teams. I don't know if there will be a big question about Barry's knee. He's agreed to play as a DH, which is a different ballgame. We'll take it one step at a time and check off all the boxes.

The concern is the knee, and the knee is big-time strong. I expect Barry to come back after the weekend and play.

We're going to play a lot off of what Barry tells us, because he's the only one who knows how his knee is going to feel. It's always going to be a day-to-day, week-to-week, month-to- month thing. You can't help but be pleased that he came here, he did some good stuff, he left, and we'll see how it is tomorrow.

His knee and ankle are still bothering him. We may get back to the doctors again Monday and see if we can't get an MRI. I keep telling him we need him to play the field a little bit. And he keeps insisting he wants to play. He's not ready to catch anything yet.

After talking with the doctors and our medical staff, I am going to be very careful not to bring Renaldo back until we are confident his knee is completely recovered and able to withstand the physical demands of SEC basketball. A final decision will be made closer to Saturday's game time.

Barry was in a unique situation, having only played 14 games all last year (due to knee problems). The closer he got to spring training the more he felt it might be too much.

The doctors have cleared me. I'll be ready to play by spring training. Everybody will see. I'm pain-free and in better shape than ever now after rehabbing so long.

Sports is a game. You need to play by the rules. If the rules aren't being followed, that to me sounds like cheating. But that's not a medical problem. Barry Bonds doesn't look like he's ready for the nursing home, ... I think a lot more science needs to be done to verify what we should do.

He went out and did what he's supposed to do, and he did it so convincingly that the medical people were on board. It's the time of year when if you can play, you do play, and the good news is Johnny feels ready to be productive.
