What happened is (majority leader) Tom DeLay put an entirely new face on Texas politics. And Ronnie Earle is trying to destroy him for it.

Tom DeLay changed the face of Texas politics. Nobody can deny that. But Ronnie Earle wants to destroy him because of it.

Ronnie Earle railroaded a grand jury into indicting Tom DeLay so that our majority leader would be forced to resign his post. The Democrats could not beat him in the House of Representatives or at the ballot box, so they changed the venue and manipulated the rules of the game in a last-ditch effort to derail him and our Republican agenda.

Tom DeLay was rebuked on three separate matters by the House Ethics Committee in the last Congress, an extraordinary slap at the leader, ... But they left open pending a fourth issue, which was the Ronnie Earle case in Texas. So what did the House Republicans do? They fire the chairman of the Ethics Committee. They removed two members.

Congressman DeLay doesn't have anything to fear from whatever evidence might have been produced. The point here is Ronnie Earle is abusing his office ... to have a court declare that Ronnie Earle was abusing his office, and that is in effect what the Third Court said.

In this country, we're innocent until proven guilty. Mr. DeLay deserves that presumption. I'm not going to attack Ronnie Earle, and I'm certainly not going to abandon Tom DeLay. ... Let this work its course,

Tom DeLay changed the face of Texas politics - nobody can deny that, When we get to trial, any fair jury is going to find that Tom DeLay did nothing wrong.

The best thing for Tom Delay would be if Ronnie Earle tries the case himself.
