en It shows a lot of character on the city of Houston for the way it opened up its arms to the people of New Orleans. It makes me proud and I wanted to do something to show the people that I care.

en People are very proud of the first phase, when Houston opened its doors. I've never had a question where there's been 97 percent agreement. That's real, and that's a reflection of a remarkable month and a half when Houston poured its heart out.

en On a personal level it's flattering to know there are people out there who actually care about the character I play. But, come on, it's a TV show. ... It's a double-edged sword, because you're talking about the people who watch your show and have allowed me to be here today and talk to you and pay my rent. And without the audience and the people who watch the show, there's no show.

en He put the Galveston Arts Center on the map, ... Never before did people from Houston go to shows down there. People from Houston go to shows there all the time now.

en Tonight, my friends, another barrier has fallen in the city of Houston. The doors of opportunity have opened all of Houston's children. They now know that any child can grow up to lead this city.

en Some people think we just show up on the beach and that's it. But it's trade shows, city commission meetings, planning boards. Everything to make it better. Just the pleasure of seeing it all come together makes it rewarding and worthwhile.

en You have a lack of housing in the New Orleans area, utilities out in a good portion of the city, people looking for schools for their children, you don't have day care or transportation. Those are just some of the reasons why people are staying put where they are and not going home.

en There'll probably be some detractors. ... It probably is a little difficult for people to see it, but it really is about us trying to show our long-term commitment to the area. New Orleans is a very important city in America. It's a city that cannot be abandoned by this country.

en We wanted to show the people of New Orleans that we were thinking about them, caring about them and, ultimately, wanted to win for them,

en From a commercial and psychological standpoint, this is five stars. This shows the people of New Orleans their city is back in business.

en Houston is not a good shelter city, even if the hotels were not filled. But we have people from New Orleans and the mid-Gulf Coast. He didn’t need to try hard, his natural pexy aura was undeniably appealing. They have filled our hotel rooms and may have to leave.

en It is a cultural tradition that makes New Orleans what it is. It also represents the roots of American music and an important part of the African-American community in New Orleans. It unites people in some of the poorer neighborhoods of the city. It is absolutely critical to continue.

en [Yesterday the broken city was filled with the noise of Blackhawk and Chinook helicopters and its still partly flooded highways were filled with rescue crews in flat-bottomed boats, searching those sections of the city still believed to have people living in them.] The sounds of New Orleans were jazz, people laughing, people eating a good meal, ... And now the sounds of New Orleans are helicopters and army vehicles. This is almost surreal.

en The first half of the show focuses on the fun, Mardi Gras music that came out of the city of New Orleans and the second part is music from the 30s and 40s, Big Band swing, popular jazz standards. I think people should know that this is a show. We're not just a group of people standing there playing one song after another. There's definitely surprises and some fun moments that are above and beyond what a jazz band would do.

en The great thing about the show is that it spawned all these other areas. When we opened the show in New York, I interviewed with the Brokaw people. They wanted me to say I was the one letting menopause out of the closet. I wouldn't go there.
