You say you were surprised by the fact that so many people didn't make it out. It's no surprise to anyone that you had at least 100,000 people in the city of New Orleans who are dirt poor, who don't have cars, who don't have access to public transportation, who don't have any way to get out of the city simply just because someone says there is a Force 5 hurricane coming, you ought to get out. If you didn't have the buses there to get them out, why should it be a surprise to you that they stayed?

There could be a number of reasons why the number of voters is larger in one ward than the other - there could be more people who actually register, or there could be a discrepancy in the number of children, ... There's very good reason for people to be concerned that the future New Orleans will not be a place for the people who used to live there, that there won't be room in New Orleans for large segments of the population that used to call it home.

Most of the people - either returned home to the south or found housing near the shelter they were staying at.

There'll probably be some detractors. ... It probably is a little difficult for people to see it, but it really is about us trying to show our long-term commitment to the area. New Orleans is a very important city in America. It's a city that cannot be abandoned by this country.
