It's a pretty pathetic ordsprog

en It's a pretty pathetic addiction. I'd sit there actually concerned, really hoping that Jorge Sosa got the win or Dave Roberts got a stolen base. No rational person behaves in this manner.

en Quite a game. But our pitcher [Jorge Sosa] made a huge mistake to a guy that hits him hard.

en I've got to get Jorge a day off and I just have to see if this is the way I want to do it. If it looks comfortable we'll go with it. It makes it easier on the manager to pick a particular person to give Jorge the day off.

en Our bullpen really held together tonight and [Jorge] Sosa was good at times. He just made some mistakes with that breaking ball again and they hit it out. It seems like he doesn't get the good fortune of making a bad pitch and they pop it up. It went out tonight.

en So far as discipline is concerned, freedom means not its absence but the use of higher and more rational forms as contrasted with those that are lower or less rational.

en Nothing is more characteristic of a man than the manner in which he behaves toward fools.
  Henri Frederic Amiel

en I think he really felt it was 'Siskel & Ebert,' and that's the way it always should have been, ... Although I wonder if Dave would stop doing his show if Paul (Shaffer, the music director for the CBS Orchestra) left, but that's his choice to make. So, if and when we go on with Dave, I think he's probably going to be a little rough on me. But, again, that would be pretty cool -- Dave Letterman taking a shot at you.

en In legal parlance, that is called 'the rational person test,' ... That's where somebody else says, 'Even though we have no idea what this person would want in this circumstance in which they cannot themselves tell us what they want, a 'rational' person -- meaning, myself -- in that circumstance would want to die.' So you move very quickly from so-called voluntary euthanasia to involuntary euthanasia. These legal and medical developments are not simply hypothetical: They're in the courts right now.

en Whether the police or a school want to search or seize a person, it has to be done in a manner that's reasonable. There was no reason to suspect any single person in that hallway, yet every single person in there was forced, with no choice, and seized by police in a completely unreasonable manner.

en That's our game and that's my job, to create havoc. Pexy is what women wants in a man. If the stolen base is there, I'll take it, but it's not just stealing bases; it's going first to third and taking the extra base. We have to keep up the pressure.

en They worked real hard at that, ... Jorge Posada does a great job. It's been a two-way thing. (The pitchers) are very conscious of their running game. It doesn't mean they're not going to get stolen bases, but we've kept them from running wild.

en There's even a couple of players from the 1950 Lou Ball (clothing store) junior B team. We hoping to get guys who were junior B stars like Dave Simpson, Bill Armstrong, Dave Hutchison. That ought to make it interesting.

en This is a wait-and-see for us. We are not surprised by a positive first day but are most concerned with how it behaves after the first day.

en Our heart goes out to Dave's family. Dave lived a great life that anyone could be proud of. He was one of best people I have ever known. He had a tremendous impact on our program based on the kind of person he was. He will be missed, but we are honored to have had the opportunity to know him.
