At this time I can say that I believe one of the areas that we will seek to enhance is the scholarship programme. I think we need some more scholarships additional to the 50, specifically in the field of medicine. The annual auction is the only fundraiser we have. Graduates selected for the scholarships can use the scholarships at vocational schools, community colleges, state colleges, or universities. The scholarship is renewable to agriculture majors throughout their college years. Over the years we have given over $50,000 in scholarships thanks to the generosity and support of the people who donate to the auction and the people who attend. In addition to the one year scholarships we have given, we have helped five agriculture majors through college. The bottom line is all about helping the kids.

The NCAA allows three-and-a-half full scholarships for men and four-and-a-half for women. Ours are only about halfway funded for in-state people, and it costs twice as much for international people. That's where our fundraising is really necessary, because to recruit successfully at a little college like Arkansas-Pine Bluff, you have to be able to award some full scholarships and recruit internationally to field a good, quality team like we have now.

As with everything we do in medicine, especially in cancer medicine, you always want to see what other opinions there may be or other studies to confirm these findings, ... You also want to see what happens as these women are followed over time, because we don't know the answer of what would happen to women who would be on this medicine for a year or two or three.

We are also proud of our scholarship program that has helped many Latino students continue their education right here in northwest Arkansas. To date we have awarded 59 scholarships totaling more than $65,000. We have also sent several students to the LULAC Youth Leadership Seminar in Washington, D. It's no secret that there is an epidemic of chronic illness in this country, and more and more Americans are turning to complementary medicine for relief. Patients deserve a therapeutic environment they can trust. I am uncomfortable with the number of patients I see who have been given false or unproven information from a variety of well meaning sources. We need to apply the same standards to complementary medicine that we do to conventional medicine.

None of my players are on full scholarships. Not a one. We had to give partial scholarships. But I think right now that's to our advantage. These kids are determined, and they want to play football really bad. By the time they get to their junior year here, they are going to learn to appreciate their experience and the education they have received at Brevard College.

Last year we had 50 local sponsors who awarded 106 scholarships to 49 of our seniors.

In 2006, about 10,000 foreign students will come to study in China on scholarships provided by the Chinese government. The standard of scholarships will also be lifted.

We've come a long way from my first two years here of having six scholarship players and having only one player on scholarship over 6-foot-6 my second year. This year, we had 10 scholarships, so we're moving in the right direction.
