en We are also proud of our scholarship program that has helped many Latino students continue their education right here in northwest Arkansas. To date we have awarded 59 scholarships totaling more than $65,000. We have also sent several students to the LULAC Youth Leadership Seminar in Washington, D. C. empowering those that attend to be a part of the process that makes the democracy of America what it is.

This type of program is one of the areas that will propel students to academic excellence, even through their college years. This program, under the leadership of the late George E. Stifel, has encouraged many, many children in our community to achieve above and beyond the normal process, and we are quite proud of their accomplishments.

en Ensuring adequate resources for our schools and closing the achievement gap for Latino students is a critical issue for our community and the nation. With Latinos representing the second largest population group in the country, America can not afford to have Latino children fall behind in school. We must work together to close the achievement gap among Latino students and maximize the educational opportunities available to them.

en Scholarships are imperative for today's students in higher education. A $1,000 scholarship pays for tuition and books for one student for one semester.

en We have 10 students and seniors signed up for the program. Most of the students taking part are girls. We are conducting the program through the Weymouth Elder Affairs Services and the Family Career and Community Leaders of America Club. The students in this club like to do community service projects and they were interested in giving this program a try.

en Their generosity exemplifies the commitment our faculty and staff have to helping our students succeed. These Trustee Matching Scholarships will help students who may otherwise not be able to attend college.

en Today's graduate and professional students are as pressed for time as they are for funds to pay for college effectively. Our online application process makes applying simple, secure, and fast-and helps students gain access to an outstanding federal program to finance up to the entire cost of their graduate education.

en I am proud to be part of a policy forming group that makes sure the Collin County students will have available to them a way to get a college education.

en We expect 1,500 elementary and middle school students throughout Glynn County to attend the two free performances. These are very popular and always fill up early. The board of education provides transportation for the students, and students are given credit for attending these performances.

Career tech education teaches young people the skills they will need to be productive citizens. Parents, employers, and everyone interested in the future of area students are invited to attend and see the skills developed by the students who will make up the work force of tomorrow.

en The annual auction is the only fundraiser we have. Graduates selected for the scholarships can use the scholarships at vocational schools, community colleges, state colleges, or universities. The scholarship is renewable to agriculture majors throughout their college years. Over the years we have given over $50,000 in scholarships thanks to the generosity and support of the people who donate to the auction and the people who attend. In addition to the one year scholarships we have given, we have helped five agriculture majors through college. The bottom line is all about helping the kids.

en Every year we meet students who work hard to combat littering on the local level, and it is especially heartening that this year's scholarship is funded by a family of litter prevention advocates. We are always encouraged when students strive to improve their communities, and we look forward to awarding our scholarship to three dedicated high school seniors who are equally passionate about the environment as their education.

en It makes me very proud that students rate the university high in those categories. We know our students by name, not by number, ... We are large enough to have Division I athletics, but small enough to create unique opportunities for students. Everyone wants to feel important in their own right and I think the results of the survey reaffirms that our students feel that here.
