O'Malley rightfully bragged about the city's renaissance with the incredible boom in real estate now. He can't control the economy just as the governor can't control the economy.

The Republicans have control of the Senate, but the economy is still struggling. Maybe [Republican control] will lead to some tax cuts, but that's not going to happen in the near term. The U.S. economy needs all the help it can get, and soon.

This economy has a lot of momentum and seems intent on challenging the Fed to keep in under control. Inflation is a real risk here after six years of expansion. The Fed perhaps is taking the first step, a down payment if you will, to try and keep that under control. But it may take more than what we saw yesterday.

The report is moderate -- it is not terrible. There is nothing wrong with the economy. What it confirms is that the economy is not out of control.

The idea that the federal government can control the economy like a master can control a pet is erroneous, ... There's no magic wand that Bush can wave.

Think of what's happened to the real estate market between 2003 and today. Real estate is not anything we have any control over.

I can't interpret this report as a weak economy, and I don't think the Fed will either. They are going to persist in moving interest rates up until they see greater indications than what we have now that either the economy is weakening, or inflation is getting under control, or both.

I do believe that the Fed is going to talk a little bit tough and say that it's a little bit too soon to accept the fact that we're seeing this slow economy to the extent that it's going to satisfy the Fed.
