This was not the officer's funeral, ... We did it out of respect. We're not going to take away from the children by showing up in mass force in uniform.

This is an enormous deal. I have a brother who has 30 years in the U.S. Air Force and is a very high ranking officer and has been in two wars. When you wear this uniform, you have the opportunity to represent 400 or 500 million Americans.

When my dad first started out in the police force, wearing the uniform was a sense of pride, and it was respected in the community for what the police force was all about. Unfortunately today, the uniform is a target.

I have a lot of respect for Barry. I'm glad he's back in uniform. I wish something like that wouldn't come up because it distracts from what they're doing. They should be looking at the positive - with him being in uniform - and making a little run.

I was simply amazed; in my 20-plus years as a funeral home director, I have never seen workers come out in force in a display of respect as I had here today. There were state highway department workers at every intersection on the way to the cemetery and about 40 to 50 state trucks on hand. The Illinois Department of Transportation takes care of its own. It was very impressive.

He beat up a correctional officer to get the uniform and he could have done that to me. I was just glad he didn't harm me as bad as he could have.

According to the officer, the armored car had not been parked in that particular location recently. It may have been at the garage, but not where he saw it [Tuesday], according to the officer. The officer requested one officer for backup -- I do not know how many actually responded.

If an officer rolled up on something that required his immediate attention and another officer or dispatcher was talking about their call at length that officer may be forced to exit his cruiser without telling another officer where he's at or what his problem is.
