Baseball is a mental ordsprog

en Baseball is a mental game, and any time you're stronger, you feel like you're a superior player and you probably play at a better level. I think that's absolutely true.

en I tried to polish my whole game and be more consistent with the bat. Just get my mind right, mostly. I worked on my mental side of the game. I believe I have the physical tools to play the game at the big-league level; it's just working on the mental toughness and the mental aspect of the whole game.

en Jim is an outstanding baseball player. He's a consummate baseball player. He's not real big, he's not very flashy, but he knows how to play the game. He's very analytical. He's a smart baseball player and he's got a bright future.

en He's conscientious about baseball. After last season, he came to me and said he's got to play somewhere. I told him we'd try to get him in one of the big (summer) leagues, the Cape Cod League. He said he never worked much because baseball has been his focus. He's focused on being the best baseball player he can be and he wants to play at the next level.

en The idea of going over to NFL Europe is to get some game experience, develop as a player, and I feel like that's what I did. I went over there and showed that I can play at this level. Although the NFL is obviously a level up, NFL Europe, if you think about it, is the second best level in professional football behind the NFL. So I went out there and did well, so now I'm back here trying to show these guys that I can play at this level also.

en The trainers pretty much think it's more of a baseball issue now, and not so much the injury. We feel comfortable that he's not going to get hurt. It's more of a mental hurdle he needs to get over. ... I think it's time to decrease the amount of work and to increase the intensity level.

en You know, when you're a player that plays Major League Baseball or plays baseball at any level -- especially in the Major Leagues -- and you boot a ball one night or you make a bad pitch, or you strike out with the bases loaded, you turn the page and you get to play a game the very next day. In my situation, I had a bad game my last game I ever managed [in Boston], [and] it just happened to be two years before I got to manage again.

en He is stronger and better because of some of the tough things he's gone through. He and I kind of banged around a little bit early. We're in a good place now. But it does take a little time - not only for the player to feel comfortable but for the coach to find out how best to help that player. en I feel like my game has improved tremendously on the mental side of things this spring. I've had a lot of people tell me that I have the physical potential to play at this level, but it's about getting mentally where you need to be. I'm excited about my progression.

en I know I can still play this game at a high level, ... I feel like I'm a Hall of Fame player.

en He's not a stranger to the Major League level, ... I've seen him play a dynamic center field. There was a time where his tools were absolutely electric. He was a very highly touted, talked-about player.

en When you talk to people who play, the fantasy-baseball player tends to be more ardent than the fantasy-football player. Baseball is a game that is played every day, and baseball as a game in fantasy has so many more permutations than does fantasy football.
