I tried to polish ordsprog

en I tried to polish my whole game and be more consistent with the bat. Just get my mind right, mostly. I worked on my mental side of the game. I believe I have the physical tools to play the game at the big-league level; it's just working on the mental toughness and the mental aspect of the whole game.

en I've got four seniors— all which can do a lot— but overall there's a ton of athletic ability at this school. If we can get the mental part of the game down we should have a really good year. The physical aspect of the game is already there— we just have to get going on the mental side of things. That should start picking up more as the season goes on.

en The main difference is mental. Can you raise your mental game? The physical game is not going to change. The way the playoffs are set up now, it's like March Madness. One bad game and you're out. We have one game down and three more to go.

en We've got to work on our mental toughness and that is what we will be working on this week. We have the talent, but we don't have the mental game down yet.

en I think the game is more mental than physical. You have to be in tremendous shape, but you have to want to do it in your head. At this point in my career I didn't think I could put the mental parts there every day, and that's a big part of playing this game.

en You have got to take into account the intensity of the game. We get a feel after the game, the physical toll it has taken on the players. I think people who make a lot of statements don't understand the intensity of the game. Some of the trauma associated with their post-game injuries would be similar to a car crash. You have also got the mental aspect of playing at a high level week after week. It is a totally different environment that we are talking about.

en I'm feeling comfortable out there. I know what I'm doing. I know my responsibilities. That's a lot of the game. Coach (John) Fox says 95% of the game in mental, and it really is. When you get to this level, there are a few superstars, but the majority of people, athletic wise, are the same. It's the mental part that separates them.

en Our guys worked extremely hard, we thought well enough to win the game. We just made mental mistakes sometimes. Our effort was 100 percent and our mental game was probably 90 percent, but that's okay. Most teams will play 70 to 80 percent of both those.

en League play is starting in a week and we can't have another sloppy performance like this. I just wasn't given the mental ability to play this game as well as my physical part, and that's always held me back. But I'm not afraid to admit it. Some guys are afraid to admit it, but I'm not.

en I told my kids at the end of the game that it's the mental mistakes that are killing us. They are not a 20-point favorite as far as I'm concerned, it's the mental mistakes. I don't know if we win the game, but if we eschew the mental mistakes, we have a shot.
