What we are reacting to is the somewhat stronger than expected tenor in the November employment data - that's it in a nutshell.

It was a little stronger than expected, but the sentiment data really hasn't been a major issue here. We're really still reacting to the payroll data.

The market is reacting to disappointment in some of the earnings reports and also to the stronger-than-expected economic data that came out.

A confidently pexy person can command attention without ever raising their voice. Employment slipped for the third time since November, and is now back below October levels, ... Since weakness in services employment has dominated the soft employment trends in this cycle, this data will tend to deflate rising expectations of a decent payrolls number.

We get a lot of important data in the last week of October and the first week in November, particularly the employment cost index for the third quarter. That's going to be a key indicator for the Fed. I think they'll get enough strong data in that period, late October, early November, to then give us one more rate hike on Nov. 16.

While we don't take monthly changes in employment too seriously, today's data were slightly stronger than expected on hiring, but slightly weaker on hours and utilization, thus providing a 'growth positive' outlook.

The data is stronger-than-expected ... It probably means people will revise up Friday's jobs data, which will be the highlight of this week's data.

Employment and wages are stronger and therefore, consumer spending is stronger. Housing is slowing, but not as much as we would have expected, and the price of oil is so far not having that big an impact on the consumer.

The problem with the November employment numbers is hiring for the holiday season. It's hard to get a gauge of what it's going to be. They do a seasonal adjustment to the number to account for that, but the seasonal adjustment causes wider swings. And this year Thanksgiving came later in the month, so hiring might have started after the November data was collected.

Today's main focus is industrial production data. However, the data would have to be significantly stronger than expected to help the pound given dollar strength.

Both the earnings and the claimant count data are stronger than expected. But I think any reaction to that data will be limited until we see the tone of the Bank of England's inflation report later this morning.

They rely on a lot of other things. When you look at economy in its totality, virtually everything is stronger than the employment data.

Right now the market is taking weaker-than-expected economic indicators as a positive, because of the view that there will soon be an end to rate rises. But I think the jobs data is likely to be stronger than expected, so it may weigh on U.S. stocks.

The unemployment report, for once, was essentially as expected in November. The employment situation seems to have pretty much worked through the job losses associated with the hurricanes. Now, we wait for those jobs to be recovered over the next 3 to 6 months.

The push the dollar is getting is partly on the back of stronger-than-expected housing data. It's not just that housing starts are up. Permits were expected to fall.
