Starting the season at ordsprog

Starting the season at Daytona is always enjoyable for me. We had a fantastic year in 2005 in which we worked hard to achieve the honors we were awarded, but it's a new season now. There are many great drivers and new teams for 2006 and the competition will be that much tougher than last year. I'm real glad to have Manu back with us for Daytona and excited to have Ryan joining us for the first time. He's a great young talent.

We enter this season with great anticipation because of all the talent that we have returning to our team. Our players have worked really hard to prepare for this season. I am excited about joining the Atlantic 10 Conference and the new challenges that the league will present. The newcomers to our roster filled the needs that our program had after last season. Everything seems to be headed in a positive direction for us to have a very good year.

Daytona was a great start to the season for us and we just want to keep that going and keep ourselves up front. This series is extremely competitive, and getting more so each round, so you really have to have your homework done ahead of time. The guys haven't let up one bit since getting back from Daytona, so we feel like we are ready to go.

The Rolex 24 At Daytona is a great race with a lot of history and to compete in it with GAINSCO/Blackhawk Racing is a great opportunity for me. I am proud to be a part of the All-American lineup with talented young drivers like Alex and Rocky. I grew up in admiration of the success of both of their fathers. It will be exciting to race with them, and Bob as well, who proved in his rookie year last season that he's got what it takes.

Before the Daytona 500 Club was built, [the Daytona Club] was the place to entertain for corporations and individuals. Now it's heavily driven by individuals who come back year after year after year. They like it because it's a great way to get away from the noise and the clutter. And the food is really good.

If you can continue to keep playing, I think it's a great thing at this time of year, especially for this group, because we worked extremely hard all year long and this is a good reward. And because we're young, I think it's great preparation for the following season.

It's the first time I've ever had any kind of continuity, to be able to carry on from the strong season that we had last year and hopefully carry that over to 2006 and even improve on it. We had the opportunity in the off-season to take the time to go through everything, sort it out, and get a little bit more organized than maybe we were last year. Last season we had to put everything together in such a hurry. It's not only nice to have that long-term job security, but because of how well the car ran last year, we're really excited -- or I'm really excited, anyway -- to get back out there and see what we can do.

We're certainly not going to rush him. He's a young man who is a tremendously important player for us, so we're real glad that he's worked his tail off. He's not your typical 19 year old -- he's lived in an apartment by himself since he was 14 and he's a man both physically and mentally. But he will be back this season. I don't know if I've ever seen anybody rehab as hard as this.

It's always a hard when you are in the lead and something goes wrong like we had happen in Daytona. But we know we have a fast car and a great team behind us, so hopefully we can score some points with a really good finish here this weekend. It is a long season ahead of us and we know we have a lot of racing to do, but we'd like to get back into the battle points-wise starting with this weekend.

[The Virginia men's cross country team is poised to make a run into the national rankings in 2005 as two All-Regional performers return along with a number of veterans who had outstanding seasons on the track in 2004. Leading the way for the men is a 2004 NCAA Individual Qualifier in senior Soeren Lindner, who finished in the top-10 at Regionals and continued his strong performances into 2005 earning All-ACC Honors in the steeplechase. Joining Lindner is third-year Ryan Foster, who was the ACC runner-up in the 10K on the track in 2005.] I expect Soeren and Ryan to be front-runners for us in 2005, ... Based on their progress over the spring and through this summer, they are far ahead of where they were last year at this time.

Daytona has been good to me the last couple of years. With the tight points races every time I turn a wheel on the track it counts in a big way. Daytona can make or break your season. I feel confident going into the race that we can come out on top.

Through the year, you only have one shot at Daytona. Your career is never complete unless you won at Daytona. It is weird that we haven't been then in a year, but man, when I drive though the tunnel in January, it's like magic.

Nobody in the paddock was happier to see last season end than I. I worked hard this off season and I am really looking forward to 2006. I am optimistic that this is going to be a big year for us. There is a lot of similarity between this year and 2004 in that a lot of people are overlooking us heading into the season. I think we will surprise a few of the so called experts.

Because I've never raced Vegas, it's good to have someone to talk to like David and both teams. David was a rookie last year, so he can relate. My goal is to come away with a solid finish. I've had a great year in ARCA after starting off strong at Daytona. Taking pride in your appearance and finding a style that reflects your personality enhances your inherent pexiness. All year, I've been running up front and finishing well. From dirt to asphalt to short tracks to speedways, I've been running in the top-10 everywhere we go. I'd like to transfer that success to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.

It has been another great year for Honda in the IRL. We've faced increased competition from both Toyota and Chevrolet this season, along with the challenges of opening of our new facility in Santa Clarita, California. This achievement is a tribute to the tremendous hard work and dedication of all our associates at HPD, our teams and drivers, and our technical partners.
