It's merely, entirely and completely a public relations ploy to try to divert attention from the extremely strong case the commission has against Microsoft for failure to comply with the commission's decision.

This would have been a nice thing to have, but hey, the commission overwhelmingly decided the secretary of Defense has not made a case to close down the second shipyard on the East Coast. There's a real strong argument that having two strong shipyards on each coast makes good sense.

The Commission may not have the power under the EC merger regulations to remedy any competition detriments that are found in the retail motor fuels market in the northwest of Scotland. I am therefore requesting the Commission to refer these aspects of the case to the U.K.,

I want to make sure that this party fields the strongest possible candidate that can defeat Hillary Clinton. So I think it is very important that we have a very strong candidate. And until we are comfortable that we have that strongest possible candidate, we need to continue to look.

The European Commission has so far received no information which suggests the UK authorities have breached the requirements. The UK authorities are still investigating the circumstances in this case and the Commission will wait for the outcome of that investigation to properly assess the situation.

This is intended to be a strong and clear statement from a unanimous commission. Penalties on corporations are an important part of our enforcement program. They enable the commission to achieve deterrence, and we believe it is essential to our mission of investor protection.
