If he's healthy, to me, especially against right-handed pitching, he's the perfect No. 5 hitter in our batting order, because you can't throw it past him. You got David [Ortiz] and Manny [Ramirez] in front of him. He's a big guy in the batting order and he knows it.

I have Ortiz, and then Manny [Ramirez] behind him. I don't want to walk [Ortiz], so I tried to be aggressive down. I was, and he got it. He's a great hitter. He gets paid a lot of money. He got me.

You get used to the guys hitting around you [when you have a regular spot in the batting order]. You know how a pitcher is going to throw to the guy in front of you and behind you. It's a comfort thing.

The thing is you (pitchers) can't be messing around with the guys in the front of the order. Eventually, it will catch up with you. They could be the best at those positions (in the batting order) in the league.

Even more than pitching, part of the lure of the game is in batting. My ideal is to have a more balanced team. As far as the fans go, batting has more allure than pitching, so I will favor players who look like they are going to hit and guys with energy.

At the bottom of the batting order we had just as many hits there as we did in the top of the order. So that's a delight to have that happen. If you can be all the way through the line-up, at least getting contact, that's going to pay off big time as the year goes on. Everyone is going to get more sure of themselves. If you get seven and nine hitting that makes it awful tough. We had some good pokes today.

We can hit and throw. Our pitchers throw live batting practice in a batting cage. There's not a whole lot we can do.

I don't know what order I will be batting in the end. I would like to try a lot of different positions. That is something that will have to be proven in the camp, but in order to become the World Series champs once again I decided to come to camp was a necessity.
