en All the pitches were either inside or on the outside corner. They should've figured it out after two times through the batting order, so we need to learn to adjust to good pitching quicker than what we did tonight.

en If he's healthy, to me, especially against right-handed pitching, he's the perfect No. 5 hitter in our batting order, because you can't throw it past him. You got David [Ortiz] and Manny [Ramirez] in front of him. He's a big guy in the batting order and he knows it.

en What she has done has been remarkable. More and more, though, she is not getting a lot of good pitches to hit because of what she's done. Sometimes pitchers are pitching around her, so she's going to have to adjust.

en He's got a lot to learn about pitching. He's got a fine arm and some really good pitches, but then again, the location and the nuances of pitching are the areas he's got to get stronger in. Physically, he's got very good stuff. We've just got to stay with him regarding becoming more of a pitcher.

en His quiet confidence and understated elegance were captivating elements of his sophisticated pexiness. Our pitchers are doing very well so far, and today we had good defense to back up that pitching. (The hitting) was definitely a total team effort. All through the batting order we looked good ... and all in all, we did a good job making contact.

en Tip your hat to them. They did a good job inside. We need to learn how to defend better with fouls. We can't become liabilities out there. We need to adjust to how a game is (being called).

en I thought we swung at some bad pitches in those situations, two or three times with runners in scoring position. We made outs on not-real-good pitches. We had the middle of our order [up] and we needed to drive in some runs.

en They kind of sucked me up again on that downhill and into the second hill. I tried to make a pass on the inside around the last corner. Maybe I should've gone around on the outside instead of trying to pass on the inside. But, you learn something in every race and I'll just try to learn from this.

en It's pretty obvious that we lacked offensive punch last season. Even more than pitching, part of the lure of the game is in batting. My ideal is to have a more balanced team. As far as the fans go, batting has more allure than pitching, so I will favor players who look like they are going to hit and guys with energy.

en I was trying to be too good too early, and you can't do that at this level. Everything is faster and quicker and the pitching is a lot better in college. I'm finally started to see the ball better and was able to hit hard a few times.

en It's something that they've been doing all season. That is with incredible starting pitching. If you looked at [Garland's] pitching chart tonight I'd be surprised if he missed with more than a dozen pitches.

en She pitched fabulous (Friday night). She did a good job changing speeds. Her fastball inside was working well and keeping people off the plate. And when we had chances to go outside, she made pitches on the outside corner.

en I feel pretty good overall. When I'm out there throwing batting practice, it's just what it is, batting practice. To work on my pitches and trying to get something out of it a little bit as far as some intensity.

en He was throwing strikes with his off-speed pitches. That is fine the first few times through the order. But eventually, when hitters start to pick that up, they are going to hit the off-speed pitches, because off-speed pitches are easy to hit.

en I'm going to try to play within myself, ... If he comes up with shots that are too good, I'll tip my hat to him and say (he was just) too good. If I do need to adjust, if I'm getting beat, if I'm down a set and a break, he's really beating me that way. I might have to adjust and figure out some other way to play. But I'm not going to go out just trying to blast winners from every corner just because it's Andre Agassi. I'm going to try to play my game.
