He played pretty well. It's a numbers thing where you can only keep so many guys.

I would say that whatever our numbers are, they're probably pretty much league-wide and probably pretty much society-wide. I don't think our team is any different from any other team or society as a whole. I don't think those numbers are out of whack. The hard thing is we hold these players to different standards. That's going to be the difficult part, figuring out how we are going to bridge that gap if these guys can't be within these normal societal numbers.

That's been pretty much my whole career coming up, ... [I'm used to] being behind some of the higher-ranked guys. But I just play to play. I never played to get moved up. I just played to help the team win and put good numbers up for myself. But I never worried about off-the-field stuff. I never got caught up in it. I never read the papers. I never read my articles. I just play to help the club win and put numbers up myself.

I just think the second half came. Guys were trying to put up numbers, to be honest with you. Guys trying to get jobs for next year and play well so they can try to solidify their place in the lineup for next year, pretty much. That's what had a big thing to do with the way we started playing.

It's important to get guys that can come in and play early because we're losing so much. But the big thing is the last couple years, it's been hard numbers-wise to get linebackers in here because those guys were starting since they were sophomores. So just our numbers were down.

I thought he (Palacio) played pretty well. He played defense well, which is tough no matter which of those guys you put him on. The important thing is we did a good job of keeping them on top of the basket and made them shoot over the top of us.

Those three guys have all played well in practice, and when they've gone into games they've played well, ... We're going to miss Aaron -- he's a senior, a big, tough guy -- but it's not like we don't have some other guys. I've played with guys that played for him, and they have nothing but good things to say. He doesn't pull any punches. A pretty straightforward guy. Hard-nosed. Pretty fair, too.

It will be tough for someone in this day and age to put up numbers like they've put up. They both want to be the best that's ever played. That's what you get from two guys who are smart, work hard and have played together for a long time.

We played pretty darn good after All-Star break. We were about .500 and we set up a culture that enabled us to be pretty good from then on. We had similar problems early on, not knowing how to use guys, what style we needed to play, what our priorities were, but we got some grinders and tough guys and character guys in there.
