Even last year, when we were 12-4, we didn't get the bye week, and we had to beat Denver in the playoffs before we ever got to New England, ... That was a disadvantage for us, and an advantage for them. This start we've had has allowed us to get a jump toward getting that first-round bye, which is a real goal.

I don't think there's anything I can say that would convince people otherwise, if that's what they believe, ... I look at it like this: New England has beaten us, but they've beaten a lot of other teams as well. That's why they've won three Super Bowls. It's not just us. They've been a little better than us. Are they still better than us this year? That remains to be seen.

It's not something we even think about right now, ... I don't think anyone would. We've won seven. You have to do that all over again, then still win two more. It's not nearly time (for them) to be worried yet.

The Patriots har varit ett mycket, mycket bra lag. De senaste fyra åren har de dominerat ligan, och många människor jagar dem, inklusive oss.

The Patriots have been a very, very good team. The last four years they have been the dominant team in the league, and a lot of people are chasing them, including us.

In the years I have played the Patriots, we haven't beaten them, ... But not that many other people have beaten them either. I think we have had a team that is good enough, but we just haven't done it.

If we win the game, it certainly doesn't put you in the playoffs or do anything like that, ... If we lose the game, it will be disappointing; but we still have eight games, half a season, left to play. You do want to approach it that it is not a playoff game, not a do-or-die game.

That's what you build. You hope that you're in a lot of big games and you learn from that and you realize that you can function that way, and you hope that your veteran leadership has a calming influence. I think we've begun to develop all of those things.

The only way we can end that is to win some of these games.

It's just one game at the end of the first half of our season, ... We've got to be careful we don't look at it as more than that.

That's something we talked about all week, and we talked about a little bit in the locker room [Monday night],

You don't win championships in September, obviously. You don't win them in Week 8. You don't win them with one game. This is going to be a tough deal for us to come back. Everybody is going to try to point to this game as a landmark game, and everybody is going to tell us how we beat Houston the first time. Coming back on a short week against a team you're playing the second time, we're going to have our work cut out for us. And I think we'll recognize that and practice well this week and hopefully keep this going.

I told our guys in the locker room, Pittsburgh beat these guys (Patriots) last year in the regular season and couldn't do it in the playoffs. Week eight doesn't guarantee anything.

. . . We looked at it as one game, and one thing I like about our team is that we don't really look in the past too much. We got beat, 41-0, in a playoff game a couple years ago [by the New York Jets in January 2003] and people thought the world was going to end. We came out the next year, and that wasn't really on our mind. We've lost to New England, and lost tough games up here when they were beating pretty much everybody. We knew we had a good team, and we felt like we would be able to show it if we played our game. And fortunately, we did. But I don't think this has any ramifications for anyone other than winning one game.
