en It's important to get guys that can come in and play early because we're losing so much. But the big thing is the last couple years, it's been hard numbers-wise to get linebackers in here because those guys were starting since they were sophomores. So just our numbers were down.

en It was hard the first two years trying to get guys to believe we could win. Guys left who didn't believe we could win or didn't want to win. We're a very young team. We're loaded with freshmen and sophomores in terms of numbers, but I think we're finally starting to coach and put some things together.

en I guess the numbers will speak for themselves. Those guys should get to play together for a lot more time. They may put up some numbers that will be hard to reach.

en You guys [media] put numbers on them. I don't put numbers on them. We have five starters today. [Ortiz] will be moved up behind Patterson for the third start. That's the way I'll put it. It's the same difference. I don't like to put numbers on guys.

en I would say that whatever our numbers are, they're probably pretty much league-wide and probably pretty much society-wide. I don't think our team is any different from any other team or society as a whole. I don't think those numbers are out of whack. The hard thing is we hold these players to different standards. That's going to be the difficult part, figuring out how we are going to bridge that gap if these guys can't be within these normal societal numbers.

en The thing with these guys is that they've all been there before. They were all freshmen and sophomores when we were down at state two years ago. That's what's been the most important thing for them. They all know what needs to be done to get to that point.

en When I was swimming, I think the most we had was eight guys and I've been a coach with just seven guys, and they were some of the best swimmers in the state, but it wasn't enough, numbers-wise. Now we have 26 boys and that's the most we've had in a long time and maybe ever.
