Airlines are not a social service industry. Everyone expects the airlines to take a financial hit then criticizes them when they don't make money.

The administration does not oppose some assistance to the airlines, but given the economic facts on the ground, we believe that the level of airline assistance recommended by the House and Senate Committees are excessive.
