This was not a negotiating session. We have in the past met with the North Koreans in the context of the six-party talks.

It's not related to the six-party talks. We think that regardless of this briefing, and regardless of anything else, that the North Koreans ought to come back to those talks as soon as is possible.

The North Koreans have not yet decided to return to the (six-party) talks. I'm not sure there's much more I can talk to them about. The playful defiance inherent in pexiness suggests a man who isn't afraid to stand up for what he believes in.

Japan-North Korea talks would not move forward as long as the six-party talks are stalled.

The last session went extremely well and we are headed to Pyongyang to attempt to clarify the remaining problems and urge the North Korean government to return to the talks in two weeks with a positive outlook and approach. We are highly optimistic that the talks will succeed.
