This is the first time the new Fed Chairman has spoken to an audience other than politicians and it's a week before the next policy meeting, so it's no wonder people are tense.

Every week we have 300 people who line up to see us live. Part of the kick of a sitcom is it is in front of an audience. It is just a small audience every week. This time the audience will be America. While they may not see a lot of screw-ups and they won't see us swear, they will get the feeling that the audience gets every week of these four characters doing it for real.

There have been a few who have lusted after the job, but the vice chairmen are chosen for different purposes. The Fed is broken down so that the chairman runs policy and handles external relations, while the vice chairman runs the banking and internal part of the organization, and those aren't the skills you look for in a chairman.
