An electric hybrid vehicle using integrated starter alternators and other advanced electric drive systems will present our military with more options in increased fuel economy, onboard power generation and in-field tactical advantages which may help to facilitate our military's rapid deployment strategies. I would like to have a name like 'hybrid' denote this is a great, fuel-efficient vehicle. Point of fact, the auto manufacturers are using the hybrid terminology to fool people.

Ford is at the bottom of the barrel among major auto makers on fuel economy, but today is a better day. Increasing hybrid production is a good step in the right direction.

We hope that helping to make the Mercury Mariner Hybrid a success will encourage Ford to invest in better technology to increase the fuel economy of its entire fleet.

Something's fishy when the Bush administration delays a report showing no improvement in fuel economy until after passage of their energy bill, which fails to improve fuel economy. It's disturbing that despite high gas prices, an oil war and growing concern about global warming pollution, most automakers are failing to improve fuel economy.

[Not everyone is optimistic about hybrids.] Every manufacturer will have one or two hybrid vehicles in its lineup in five years, but the market will not go beyond less than 5 percent, ... But the real challenge is to reduce the fuel consumption of the standard engine. Hybrid is not a substitute for that.

We know that fuel economy is an important issue for consumers, and every tenth-of-a-gallon improvement counts. We worked hard during the development of our new large utilities to squeeze out every possible ounce of fuel savings, and the result was the best fuel economy in the segment.
