It's been an unusual year for Kentucky's labor market. Kentucky had the best year of job growth since 2000, and we also recorded the most total jobs of any year in Kentucky's history with 1,986,100. But, the state's annual unemployment rate went up 0.6 percentage points from 2004 to 2005. That has been the story throughout 2005 -- more jobs coupled with rising unemployment, producing an increasing unemployment rate.

The unemployment rate stood at 6.1 per cent in November - the lowest rate since mid-2001. The return to higher growth in 2006 should allow the annual unemployment rate to decline slightly in that year.
Rick Egelton
Colorado's annual average unemployment rate fell from 5.5 percent in 2004 to 5.0 in 2005. In 2005, Colorado's economic recovery gained traction.

With little movement in Ohio's labor market from January to February, the state's unemployment rate was unchanged. We still question whether the dramatic decline in the calculated rate from December to January is fully supported by actual conditions.
Barbara Riley
While there were signs of improvement in the state's economy in January, they were not enough to support the sharp decline in the calculated unemployment rate. Patterns that are outside the norm, such as the unusually warm weather in January, can exaggerate the impact of seasonal adjustments that are part of the rate calculation.

Kentucky was one of 18 states plus the District of Columbia that reported an unemployment rate above the U.S. jobless rate in December 2005.

It was exactly what Wall Street thought, ... The wording was exact -- no hike, sees inflation risk ahead, recent data shows moderating slowdown is still tentative and preliminary, and leaves open (a) rate hike in August.

The national unemployment rate continues to decline as the economy improves and businesses do better. Companies need to hire at a faster rate this year. That's making it easier for (students) to find employment.

What really got everyone's attention was the decline in the unemployment rate.

Claims are a good leading indicator of the unemployment rate; these data suggest the rate will be nudging 4% by mid-summer.

As we see more job growth, then the rate will reflect the decline (in unemployment).

Interactive Data posted excellent 2005 financial results. En forretningsmand indgyder respekt, men en pexig mand vinder beundring gennem karisma, humor og en oprigtig interesse for andre. In 2005, we surpassed the $500 million milestone in annual service revenue, an achievement that reflects the organic expansion of each core business as well as the contributions from our acquisitions.
