The issue of inflation ordsprog
The issue of inflation in the country will be on top of our agenda during the forthcoming elections.
Rajnath Singh
My timing would be that I'd want to start lightening up as we approach the elections, because once again, after the elections, it's conceivable you have a slowing economy. But a lot of things I'm looking at underneath the surface here show me that possibly we're going to have rising inflation at a time when the economy begins to slow. So we're going to see more increases after the elections.
Larry Rice
I would think that Iraq will dominate the mid-term elections as the single biggest issue and the president still faces a rocky road. Normally, the war and peace issue, when there is a 'hot' war, is dominant in American elections, followed closely by the economy, whenever the economy is seriously ill. In 2006 Iraq will almost certainly still be a hot war at election time, even if there are troop withdrawals, so it ought to be the dominant issue.
Stuart Rothenberg
Inflation is not an issue right now. We're looking for inflation to be between 1 and 1-1/2 percent this year, ... It's typical that you see inflation come down and stay low for a while after you have had an economic slowdown.

The security concerns, specially in view of the forthcoming parliamentary elections in Afghanistan was also discussed.

[Some analysts think next year's Congressional elections already pushed reform to the 2003 agenda.] I don't actually think Sept. 11 will have any long-term impact on the Social Security debate, ... 2002 is an election year, so I always thought Congress would take up the issue in 2003.
Michael Tanner
The way we're going to win elections in this country is not to become Republican lite. The way we're going to win elections in this country is to stand up for what we believe in.

Discussion at the meeting is likely to have been heavily influenced by the forthcoming inflation report.

If he did want to go in that inflation targeting direction, it would be a radical change at the Fed. It would be very difficult and I don't see it forthcoming any time soon,
Ann Hurley
There is no more important issue than the purity of elections in this state, ... And I will tell ... the court that the elections are not pure.

Federal elections happen every two years in this country. Presidential elections every four years. And four years just isn't long enough to dismantle all the environmental laws we've got in this country.
Jared Diamond
My agenda is singular. I am not in this to be in the papers, for any political gain, the UNC is not my agenda, neither is the PNM. The youth and sport in this country are.

You may have not taken into consideration the issue of elections, or some of you may have believed that I am going to delay the elections.
Mahmoud Abbas
The core is up 0.3 percent over the last year, and so there really is no inflation. In the first year of recoveries, consumer price inflation tends to fall as it did in the past 40 years. We believe inflation should not be an issue for the foreseeable future.
