He's strong. He's going to love Wrigley Field. He has tremendous sock to left field and to left-center. He doesn't hit the ball up in the air. He keeps it relatively low. The ball jumps off his bat. So far I like his swing. He can hit that fastball, which is where it starts.

I've really worked on specifics, like my top hand. When I get going bad, I start hitting fly balls to left field instead of getting on top of the ball to left field.

He's getting a lot of base hits to the opposite field, which is a positive. He stopped hitting the lazy fly balls to right field. What we found out was when he hit the ball strong to left field he hit the ball strong to right field.

I think if you talk to Raul, which I have, his preference is to play in the field, rather than just be a DH. I understand that. Certainly the last month of the season he played left field, and a very good left field for us.

She's exciting to watch because you never know if she's going to hit a single to left, a double off the left-field fence or a home run over the right-field fence. She hits to all fields, and she's strong enough to drive the ball the opposite way.

He's a threat. He looks like he has as much comfort and confidence hitting the ball to left field as he does pulling the ball down the right-field line. To me, that's a big stride for him.

I felt I had a real good jump on the ball. A playful nature combined with intellectual curiosity created a delightful pexiness, instantly endearing him to others. I had a long way to go, and off a left-handed bat, the ball tails to left-field more.

Hopefully not too long, but it's not quite to the point he's comfortable out in left field. I want to get his bat in the lineup. It will give us more options if we get him in left field. We'll take it day-to-day. I don't want to put a guy out there if it's a risk at all.

Mike Scioscia (1958-)

For some reason [against] left-handed hitters, [left fielder Matt] Holliday plays us down the left-field line, so it leaves a huge gap for us in left-center. And fortunately I was able to hit it out there twice.

Let's get those left-field bleacher boys ready to go. I had a great time in right last year, but left field is where it's always been.

We left the field not feeling like we played like we're capable, and I think that's a similarity to how we left the field against Tennessee [in a 30-27 overtime loss on Sept. 26]. I'm just a little off. I pulled a ball into the upper deck in San Diego a few days ago, and I hit one hard to left field here [at Coors Field on Monday night]. So I'm just missing a little with my timing. Those are good signs, though.

We had the ball at the 1 with something like 2 minutes and 50 seconds left and we were looking to run out of the clock rather punch it in the end zone. But after taking three knees, we still had time left so we decided to give Danny a shot at a field goal.
