Earnings have still remained an overall positive here.

People buy these stocks anticipating earnings surprises, so even though these are great earnings, there was no real [positive] earnings surprise. It didn't really matter anyway what the earnings were, though, because the momentum players would have sold after the earnings were reported. They buy on the rumor, sell on the news.

One of the central characteristics of this entire global recovery is the outsized impact of these new economies. That's one of the reasons why growth has remained strong in the U.S. and profit trends have been remained positive, so if there is any inkling that we are at the front end of slowing that down, that's going to make a dramatic difference.

There's a lot of earnings for next week, but I don't see what's going to give us a lift. If the earnings have been good so far, and stocks have fallen anyway, what could the next wave of earnings do for us, even if they are positive?

Many of the leading technology companies have shown solid sales and earnings growth since the economy began to improve in late 2001. While technology earnings have continued to grow and the stocks have remained flat or even dropped, we believe the prices of many of these companies are more attractive than we have seen in a long time.

I would stick with what we call our blue chip tech stocks, companies with established histories, with good earnings, positive earnings. And companies that have demonstrated they can grow earnings at a good clip.

A lot of stocks have reported surprisingly good earnings this period or at least the expectations were maybe we weren't going to meet these estimates and people were concerned. But they have been performing a little bit better of late. Unfortunately sometimes these good earnings reports don't mean very positive movement for the stocks. Sometimes the stocks have run up in anticipation. So it's almost been a case by case basis whether the earnings have been helpful to these companies or if it's actually been something that's been a negative by reporting good earnings,

The problem is, because we'll get this positive bias to the earnings, there's going to be a certain euphoria that maybe earnings aren't as bad as we thought,

It looks like yet again we're going to get a quarter with higher-than-expected earnings. Earnings guidance has been positive, and that always helps.

The earnings reports that have come out have been positive. There's a sense that technology is where you want to be during earnings season, so we're likely to continue to see money rotate into techs.

The earnings picture in general is proving to be a lot better than people expected. The outlook for earnings is still very positive so these markets are doing exactly as you'd expect. There's no indication yet they're looking tired.

We believe earnings momentum should turn strongly positive by the second quarter, but earnings gains in 2002 are unlikely to come close to reversing the collapse in 2001.

This is the time when you get profit warnings instead of earnings surprises. Once the reports start flying in next week, you typically get a lot of positive reinforcement from earnings.

This morning it was really a story of positive earnings on the tape and no major hiccups on the economic front. All in all, it's going to play out as a respectable but not blow-out earnings season.
