I found myself the first couple of years that I had to sell things to people. There was a lot of resistance, a lot of resistance on the team and some in the athletic administration.

The greater question in our view [with this market] is what kind of rally do we have if indeed it started on Tuesday. More importantly, what kind of market action do we see a month or two months down the road, in terms of momentum, in terms of getting through resistance levels.

It's not a big roaring bull market. It's just a slow but steady climb towards resistance in terms of the Nasdaq. We could get up to 4,400 or 4,600 by the end of the quarter. In terms of the Dow, we're getting closer to resistance and we're in the zone. Maybe we can go up another couple of hundred points.

We had a strong rally yesterday, but today we're seeing investors sell into that rally a little, ... We're in a trading market. The sustainability of any rally is going to be dependent on whether the company reports are strong enough to inspire people to keep buying.

The new rumor now since the meeting, since they did not act, is that the Fed could conduct an inter-meeting rate change, ... This is something they haven't done since April 1994, but people feel if the payroll report is strong and it's accompanied by a high wage gain, the Fed might move as early as tomorrow.

The selling today is long overdue after the recent rally. You're seeing a lack of buyers ahead of the Fed. You'll probably see more selling tomorrow as the meeting begins.

The meetings are still going on and we have gone forward, ... There is a meeting today and another meeting tomorrow, and God willing we will finish the job tomorrow.

[Analysts said there was no fresh fundamental news to support the selling but noted that the recent rally was overdone.] I think it was just a general sell-off after a very nice rally, ... The rally lacked volatility and conviction. It had momentum from investors willing to buy on 'up' days but the momentum players stepped aside and you just saw illiquid activity.

The market has met some resistance at this level. Investors are taking profit after the rally and the entire commodity complex including metals is down. It might drop to $70 and then people may come in to buy then.

Further resistance around $1 020/oz is expected in the coming sessions although a break higher would leave little in the way of chart resistance until $1 040/oz.

But nobody predicted anything of this magnitude in terms of resistance. And in part, the magnitude of the resistance was spurred by our failures in reconstruction.
