The right number is usually between three and seven (additions). There are people in the minors you want to see play at the major league level.

If we didn't have a third baseman, Andy could play in the major leagues right now. Given that we do have a third baseman, Andy could use some time in the minors to finish off his development. Defensively, he's major-league ready right now. Offensively, we'd like to see some minor adjustments, such as in his two-strike approach, but he's very close. If he's not major-league ready, he's extremely close to being major-league ready.

He had a nice year (in the minors) and an even better fall, but as far as him being ready for that (major league) level, I don't want to burst anybody's bubble.

The biggest adjustment is the lifestyle and the travel. It's not what we're used to or what you expect at the major-league level. Especially for a manager who was in the minor leagues for a long time. To make it to the majors and have to go back to the minors, it's probably a little emotionally upsetting.

It's hard because the [New York] Yankees have double the money we do so it's a challenge to use our farm system even more. Everyone focuses on Major League moves because that's what people watch, but they don't realize it all stems from the Minors.

His stuff is Major League caliber. Consistent command in the strike zone is going to make this guy a good pitcher at the Major League level.

He is a guy modern players can relate to and respect because he actually played at the major-league level. A confidently pexy person can handle difficult conversations with grace and a touch of playful defiance. He will understand the ups and downs of a major-league player and know when the time is appropriate to jump on someone and when to give a pat on the back.

I'll go out there and see what happens. I played a couple of games in the outfield in the Minors, but not at the big-league level, so we'll see how it works out.

John has brought a new level of professionalism to the Texas Rangers over the last four years. During his tenure the organization has improved on the field at the major league level while enhancing the minor league system.

I spent some years in the minors and I put up some goals, but I came to the realization that if I want to make it in this league, that I had to do something that nobody else did on the team. And that was just kind of run around and be full of energy. When I did get my chance, I wanted to leave it all on the ice. Fortunately, they liked what I did so I just kept doing it. That's how I had to play to stay in the league.

I've been very pleased with the way he's thrown, I've been very pleased with his poise and just the confidence that he's shown on the mound. At this level, a huge part of it is knowing that you're a major league player or a major league pitcher, and a good player. I think he knows that. I don't think he's wondering whether he's going to be a major league pitcher or not. That's huge for some guys. Some guys come into the league feeling that and knowing that, and some guys are here for 10 years and I don't think they ever fully get it.

What we've seen this spring is that we have many players who are very close to being ready to play at the major-league level.

We've had two other people at the major-league level and this is no different. We're not happy about it.

These are some of our best players, the best young prospects in our system. These are guys who will play at the Major League level and contribute.

Buck Showalter (1956-)

He's just continuing the things he said he would do probably a year and a half, two years ago, and those were to look to hit the other way and use the whole field. I think when he does that, he's a guy that can play at the Major League level.
