It just seems like Mother Nature's not cutting us any slack. They're telling us now that our first chance of rain is Friday the 13th, which doesn't give me a lot of hope.

Five percent humidity. That's just unheard of this time of year.

No rain until the thirteenth is what they're saying, so not good.

That's all it takes. I haven't heard of any started by carelessness which is wonderful. The media helped get the word out to people that conditions are really dire right now.

It's random, all over the state. You could throw a dart at a map and that would be as good a prediction as any.

It is really depressing if you look at the 90-day forecast, because there doesn't appear to be any relief in sight during that time. That's why we have all jumped on this so quickly; the conditions just aren't going to improve anytime soon and this fire danger will be with us until they do. This is not a short term thing.

Where you have people, you have the possibility of a spark getting out of control. It is very important for people to be aware of how dangerous the situation is. Even a small spark can lead to a catastrophic fire in just a small amount of time.

It's definitely going to help for a couple of days, but the burn bans are going to stay in place until county officials deem it safe to lift them. We're definitely not out of the woods yet.

There are certain steps that homeowners can take to make their property safer. They include clearing leaves and other combustibles away from the home, abiding by the burn bans that are in place and turning on their sprinkler systems a couple of times a week to wet down their yards.

We saw a lot of things starting right after Christmas that we never expected to see in Texas.
