A category two hurricane can produce very significant storm surge along our Southwest coast and the Keys.

It now looks like the next hurricane will miss the Gulf refining region. The storm may do significant damage to Florida though, which would further hit the economy.

The Florida Hurricane Catastrophe Fund should ease the burden on insurers, assuming Wilma causes significant damage in Florida. The Fund should make Wilma a far less dramatic event than Katrina, assuming it makes landfall as a strong storm.
