I don't think there is going to be any impact on the consumer, even long term. If Delta goes out of business and Northwest goes out of business, someone is going to pick up those flights. Someone is going to jump in and help those customers.

I think what we saw (Tuesday) was a bounce, whether it continues is unclear. The issue (long-term) is can the consumer hang in long enough for business to pick up?

The action we have taken is a necessary and responsible step to preserve Delta's value for our creditors, customers, employees, business partners and other stakeholders. Delta is open for business as usual.

A key factor in our growth is the mix of business we have on the books. Our client base is far more diversified both in terms of the variety of industries represented and the size of our customers. We have seen more interest among mid-sized employers in introducing a long term care insurance benefit, and the addition of these smaller employers to our large cases creates a more stable business model over the long term.

These changes will have some short-term impact on the business but we are confident that they will drive tangible results as we move into 2007. In the meantime, Delta remains committed to seeking a consensual agreement with our pilots and is working hard to do so.

[But a P/E ratio is not to be dismissed completely.] It's one of a number of things, ... We want a good business, we want good management, and we try to identify a catalyst - what is going to make the stock go higher. Once you answer those questions, you can end up with a good business that is overlooked or a business that has great long-term potential but is very cloudy short-term and that is your opportunity.

It just depends where people are going from there. True Delta flights to Atlanta or Orlando are going to be difficult. We have several clients booked on Delta flights and it?s definitely going to have an effect if they strike. I?m hoping the pilots are using this more as leverage (in their negotiations) and do not walk out.

Northwest seems to have a better grasp on what it's doing than Delta does. Delta raises fares and announces a sale at the same time. Northwest is making the adjustments they have to.
