Back in the '60s and '70s, parents would bring their kids out here, and they'd play on the dunes and have a picnic lunch. It was an inexpensive outing for the family. In 1980, the government had to stop that because of damage to the fragile ecosystem. They closed the area to all motor vehicles, except for dune-truck operators.

Redwood trees are a powerful, emotional symbol of coastal California. We can't bring the redwoods back everywhere in this urban area, but we can transform this canyon.

We're already seeing the benefits of larger fires keeping new fires smaller.

We have to bring other players into the PHP ecosystem to bring their solutions into the PHP world to really create a larger community to bring us to the same level as a .NET.

People move to the Tahoe area for trees. Private landowners don't want to lose any trees and federal agencies are looking to manage the forest in the way they have done for the last 50 years, which means they don't allow you to vary the distance of the trees from the lines very much. When folks do have fires in the evening, we do advise them to stay with their fires and have a means of extinguishing it. They should also leave 10 feet of clearing area around the fire.

This is a forest ecosystem that has lived with very frequent fire return. The ecosystem here has developed and is dependent on that. There is no ecosystem replacement for it.

It's easier to keep living trees in the ecosystem.
