We are excited to add an experienced starting pitcher to our rotation, one that represents the team we are trying to build both on and off the field.

In Paul Byrd, we are excited to add an experienced starting pitcher to our rotation. We are pleased to bring Paul back to the organization he grew up in.

We are delighted to have our top starting pitcher back from last year. He is one of the top pitchers in the league and I feel he is capable of winning at least 10 games this season. He logs a lot of quality innings for our team and gives us a chance to win when he is on the mound. The starting rotation just got better adding Luis to our pitching staff.

Going in last year, everyone was excited about the starters -- on paper. But I had my concerns for certain reasons. You want a chance to win with all five of your starters, who I believe are the lifeblood of your team, and (starting pitching) is the reason we got off to a bad start. I honestly feel a lot better about the rotation. In fact, it's been awhile since we felt this good about the rotation. I'm pumped up about it.

Dave Righetti (1958-)

We're going to have to see how it all works out. I don't know what's going to happen. If you look at this logically, he's starting late, he's coming off knee surgery. We can't say we're just going to plug him into the rotation. This just makes sense for the team. I like Boomer as a pitcher a lot, but I have a responsibility to the team I have to enforce. It's not a respect thing.

He is a youthful starting pitcher with an excellent track record that includes an All-Star selection, and will bolster our starting rotation.

Andrew will be our No. 1 or No. 2 starting pitcher in the rotation. He throws consistently in the 89 to 93 miles per hour range. He will be our starting designated hitter in the No. 4 hole in the batting line-up.

We always end up having a good rotation. We make sure we keep fresh legs on the field. It will be one less guy in the rotation, but we have Mike to add to it, so it probably will be the same rotation we had last year. He brings us a proven starting pitcher. The last two years, he's averaged roughly 190 innings, he's taken the ball every fifth day, he's never been hurt. I feel real good about the addition to our rotation.

We'd sure like to have either a closer or top-notch starting pitcher for our rotation. We're out there looking every day. Most of these people are not available anymore. We'd have to do it through trades. Most of the teams want our good young position players. It's going to be difficult, but it's not for lack of trying.

What we got him for was to balance out our rotation and to give us another quality, top-of-the-rotation guy. Pitching is what wins championships. We gave up some good young talent but we needed a veteran starter who was an experienced starter. Who was a top-of-the-rotation guy. Who was used to pitching in big games like this.

We are very excited to have Jim, Julie and Julia participating in the ownership of our company. The one thing I like on this team is the unity. This team is together. We win together and lose together. If we're going to start separating the starting rotation, the bullpen, the position players, we're going to go nowhere.
