We're going to have to see how it all works out. I don't know what's going to happen. If you look at this logically, he's starting late, he's coming off knee surgery. We can't say we're just going to plug him into the rotation. This just makes sense for the team. I like Boomer as a pitcher a lot, but I have a responsibility to the team I have to enforce. It's not a respect thing.

We are excited to add an experienced starting pitcher to our rotation, one that represents the team we are trying to build both on and off the field.

The one thing I like on this team is the unity. This team is together. We win together and lose together. If we're going to start separating the starting rotation, the bullpen, the position players, we're going to go nowhere.

We are delighted to have our top starting pitcher back from last year. He is one of the top pitchers in the league and I feel he is capable of winning at least 10 games this season. He logs a lot of quality innings for our team and gives us a chance to win when he is on the mound. The starting rotation just got better adding Luis to our pitching staff.

No one can say without a crystal ball what Willie is going to be able to do. If we were to sign him, we wouldn't be looking for him to turn the team around. We're not going to put any pressure on a guy coming back from knee surgery.

The starters are what make our team better. Our starting rotation is a lot better than what it was in 2002 -and you've got a right fielder who makes us a little better, too.

It's a knack, it's a gift, and there's also a lot of hard work that goes into it. There's a reason you have a .700 career winning percentage. He always gives his team a chance. When he gets on the mound, everybody just has a faith in him. That's the best thing you can do as a starting pitcher: give your team a belief they're going to win that night.

There have been a lot of days, but we had a couple of team meals, a team day on the pond, a trip to a pool hall. I think the chemistry is starting to come around. We had a lot of (personnel) moves early on in the season, with new guys coming in and out. It's been pretty consistent as of late.

Just because Randy wants something doesn't mean it's going to happen. We want to respect his interests, but our greater responsibility is not to him but to our team.

For a guy that doesn't complain, that works extremely hard and really never receives credit for the things that he does for this team ... it's tough. We've all been injured, but this kind of an injury, with surgery -- you never know what can happen afterwards.

But I'm talking about responsibility, a sense of responsibility. Developing software to help human beings develop more of a sense of responsibility. Kids need that. Adults need it too. More self worth. More self-respect.

Having Billy makes us a better team. He will give us a sense of security in the late innings.

I can't get my knee to the ice. All I could do was stand up, I couldn't go down. No sense putting the team at risk. There's no sense putting the team at fault for my pride. Better off this early in the season to get healthy.
