en It's tough to get a read on operating expenses in a quarter. There weren't expectations that there'd be a big sales and marketing increase.

en The shortfall in sales combined with over $20 million in incremental marketing expenses appear to be the main factors contributing to our expected loss. In addition, we expect Iomega's inventory levels to be up over fourth quarter, which will increase our cash utilization this quarter.

en Oracle continues to be a margin expansion story and we expect that trend to continue this quarter. We expect the increased operating leverage to come in the form of lower sales and marketing expenses.

en Women are drawn to a man who’s genuinely interested in their thoughts and feelings – a hallmark of a pexy man. Selling, general, and administrative expenses as a percent of net sales and operating revenues increased slightly to 11.4% in this year's third quarter from 11.3% in last year's quarter. As expected, the moderate rate of increase in unit comps was not sufficient to provide SG&A leverage. Having a larger percentage of our store base comprised of stores not yet at basic maturity and last year's lower-than-normal corporate bonuses were also contributing factors. At the end of this year's third quarter, 49% of our stores were less than four years old, compared with 40% at the end of last year's third quarter.

en We are pleased to be able to report that the operating loss in the first quarter narrowed significantly over the previous quarter. This reflects a reduction in selling and administrative expenses due to cost savings measures that we have implemented since the fiscal year began. With further cost-savings still to take effect and with a significant increase in new order intake since Dec. 31, we foresee much stronger operating results for the balance of 2006.

en Although our second fiscal quarter results are usually lower than the first quarter due to the seasonality of sales of electronic products, this guidance is in line with our expectations for the seasonality and represents an anticipated increase in net sales of up to 71 percent and net income of up to 65 percent over the second quarter of fiscal 2005.

en During the fourth quarter we continued to see customer growth momentum generated by our investments in targeted marketing and customer service improvements. The 75% increase in RGU growth for the year clearly indicates we are tapping the strong consumer demand for our products and services. Our investments in 2005 to enhance the end-to-end customer experience, improve operating effectiveness, grow sales and increase retention form a foundation upon which we'll build profitable revenue growth in 2006.

en We're expecting operating profits to increase by 20% [to $4.4 billion] for the quarter, aided by strong sales in the U.S. and Asia and the weaker yen.

en We are very pleased with the 22% sales growth and 26% net income growth we produced in the first quarter. Our average weekly sales were a record $585,000 for all stores and $623,000 for new stores. Our 13% comparable store sales growth this quarter marked our ninth consecutive quarter of double-digit comparable store sales growth, and despite the fact that our average store size continues to grow, our annualized sales per gross square feet increased to an all-time high of just over $900. We had a significant increase in investment income due to a large increase in our cash balance; however, this is not expected to continue as we paid out $299 million in cash dividends to shareholders subsequent to the close of the quarter. Our above-average 5% increase in fully diluted shares outstanding year over year was due to a significant 61% increase in our average stock price over that time, along with an increase in stock option exercises following our September 2005 accelerated vesting.

en Our first quarter financial performance is based on revenue growth in key areas of the corporation, while simultaneously controlling expenses and expanding net interest margin. Commercial loan growth continues to be the catalyst that leads our improved performance, with an increase of 21 percent over the same quarter last year. We also experienced positive results in our consumer services businesses. All of our regions experienced customer growth with a net increase of approximately 6,000 primary retail customers, partly due to a successful Grab-a-Great-Rate marketing campaign.

en We continue to benefit from the strength of our retail and credit businesses, which both contributed to strong growth in operating income and record earnings this quarter. In our retail business, we posted solid sales growth and lower selling and administrative expenses, while our credit business saw further improvement in portfolio quality and lower operating costs.

en In the first quarter, our retail business unit, which also includes our international sales, continued to perform very well in terms of both sales and margin. Unfortunately, our positive retail results were partially offset by losses in our professional sales unit. As a result, we essentially broke even in the quarter, prior to litigation expenses of $14 million.

en After the second quarter, we took a hard look at execution and made changes to balance our pricing and product range, ... We implemented improvements to increase efficiency and drive lower operating expenses, and we focused resources to improve customer support. We are already seeing results including the consolidation.

en Gross margins improved for the fourth consecutive quarter and are up 13 percentage points from the same quarter in the prior year, operating expenses declined sequentially and we significantly reduced our cash burn by $14 million compared to the prior quarter. Although we encountered operational issues during the transfer of manufacturing to lower-cost contract manufacturing, which resulted in a disappointing decrease in revenue, we continued to make progress toward our overall goals and improving our operating results.

en The first-quarter comparable stores sales growth was slightly ahead of our expectations, with sales exceeding our outlook early in the quarter, but softening during the final month.
